I finally went to La Superior, the #1 taco place people have recommended to me since I started doing this blog. I have to say, the size of the tacos were off-putting. I can get larger tacos of the same quality and price at plenty of other places in the city. But, that being said, this place lived up to the hype. I haven’t had as much fun eating at any other taco joint in town.

The variety of small plates is what made it excellent for sharing. We ordered chips and guac and fundido con chorizo which is just cheese and meat. It’s awesome. If I made this at home, I would feel gross. But here it’s a legitimate dish so it’s okay to eat it.

It’s really hard not to make an easy joke so I will. Fundido really is fun!

We also got esquites which is a cheesy, mayonnaise, corn combination. In my dreams, it’s amazing. But in reality it never quite works out. I think it’s because it needs to be baked or something. The mayo never clings to the corn correctly. It always seems like it’s missing a step.

On to the tacos. I ordered lengua, pork and shrimp.

I chose shrimp because La Superior has a reputation for good tacos so I figured if anyone could make shrimp work it would be them. It didn’t. I have to say shrimp is a lost cause at this point. (Don’t even ask if I’m going to try Taco Bell’s new shrimp taco. I’m not. I’ll leave that kind of insanity to Courtney if she’s up for it.)
The pork was good. I just need my pork greasier. Everything compared to Taqueria Jersey City seems dry. The lengua was the stand out. Although, I have yet to have a bad tongue taco so I’m beginning to think it’s the anti-shrimp, every version of it is good.
Overall, very glad I visited La Superior. Super fun place with good food.
