Some dark, secret places may seem scary at first but end up being pleasantly surprising. This is true of my two reviews for this week: Tehuitzingo Deli and Alan Wake for the Xbox 360. (See what I did there?)
Tehuitzingo is a deli located in the Hell’s Kitchen section of Manhattan but it holds a secret. Hiding in the back are some of the best tacos near midtown.
Just past the packaged goods and the drink case is dimly lit seating area lined with mirrors and neon lighting. It feels like eating in a disco. In a good way.

At the very back you’ll find a window to place your order. They have a lot of choices that you can’t find anywhere near by.

There were so many new tacos to try but again, I was limited by my ability to only eat three tacos in a sitting. I decided to go with lengua (tongue), barbacoa (goat) and enchilada (spicy pork).
Across the board, the tacos were a little dry. But the edges were so nicely crisp and flavorful from the highly seasoned grill that I didn’t mind. The enchilada was standard pork fair. Very good but not exceptional. The barbacoa was the driest of the three but it had that excellent grill flavor I mentioned. The lengua was the real stand-out. The tender pieces of tongue had an almost duck-like quality. Crispy on one side, soft and fatty on the other.
I loved the hidden quality of this place. During the day, it was nice to escape the business crowds and retreat to my own private taco hang out. Although, the atmosphere really seemed best suited for a late night taco hang out. If I lived in the area, I would be stopping by here after heading home from the bar. As it is, I will definitely be splitting my lunch time between here, El Rey del Sabor and a certain 3rd place I have yet to review. (More secrets!)

Speaking of hidden places, Alan Wake is the video game equivalent of a haunted house. I mean that in the best way possible. I couldn’t wait to get home every day and be scared. It was so much fun to wander through the woods with a flashlight and have things jump out at you. The best part was that the surprises were never frustrating. They didn’t ruin the scare by making you fight for the next 10 minutes. The point of the game seemed more to follow the story and not be able to expect what was coming next. That being said for being a story about a writer, it wasn’t very well written which could be distracting to some people. Also, Stephen King is such an “influence” that it might as well be presented by him. It does make me curious what it would be like to turn actual Stephen King properties into games. He should look into that. Cujo side scroller? Christine racing game perhaps?
Overall, this game was a blast and I look forward to seeing what they do with this property in the future.

IT, the adventure RPG?
How horrifying. I wish it were The Stand, RPG.
